The family father was a drunk man, and he used to hit his wife and his son when he arrived home drunk. One day, the son decided to give his father a lesson, and he got a dog costume, so, when the night arrived, the son put on the costume and he hid nearby the house entrance. It was around midnight when the drunk man was arriving home, so, suddenly, he saw how a big black dog which was wearing chains around the neck appeared in frond him. The man was so frightened, and the son believed that, after that, his father wouldn't drink again.
One day, the father went out as always, but he decided to carry a machete [a kind of white large knife used to cut grass]. When he was arriving home as always, the black dog appeared again in front of him, but this time the man took his machete out and he was trying to kill the dog. So, the so cried "Dad, it's me". The man got angry, and he cursed him saying:
«Por asustarme y contradecirme «cadejos» quedarás y a todos los borrachos del mundo en sus necesidades ayudarás» which means: For scaring me and contradicting me, like a "cadejo" you will stay, and to each drunk around the entire world, in their needy you will help.
People say that El Cadejo look after drunks and take care of them. El Cadejo is a big black dog with eyes as the fire, which smells like sulfur, and he is wearing chains around the neck. Some people mention that El Cadejo has feet like a goat and little horns.
This was Maikol with another blog; I hope that you had had a good time reading this Costa Rican legend.
See you.
