Every and Each
September 10th, 2025
Today we're going to learn about "Every" and "Each", two interesting quantifiers. Both of them are used to talk about a 100% of something, aren't they? Let's talk about each one.
Every
If you say about all the parts of something, thinking it as one all, so you should use every. This word must be followed by a singular noun; if you are going to use a verb, this must be in its singular form.
E.g.
In my classroom, every person is so clever. (I'm talking about my whole class)
Every day, I watch TV. (I watch TV my whole week)
Each
This word is used to talk about a 100% of something, but emphasizing individually "each one". When you use this word, you are talking about something formed by individual pieces. In this case, the following noun and the verb are also in singular)
E.g.
When I draw, I love each drawing. (I'm talking about drawing by drawing, individually)
Each day, I try to improve my drawing skill. (I try to improve on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc.)
